It’s time for our Dallas Cowboys-New York Giants preview here at RandHSports.com. We break down the changes to the offense and why Sunday’s game is a must-win for Dallas. We also look at the return of Randy Gregory and how it gives the Cowboys’ defense its best hand in quite some time. And, how much of a difference will La’el Collins make up front? It’s our First and 10 preview for Week 7.

I laid out the reasons why Matt Cassel would be a better quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys than Brandon Weeden in my Five Players to Watch piece. It boils down to the fact that Cassel has won more NFL starts than Weeden and Cassel has a better touchdown-to-interception ratio than Weeden. But you can also look at this as a “feel” move by the Cowboys and their head coach, Jason Garrett.

Weeden’s numbers were nice, statistically speaking. But the offense continued to decline in Weeden’s three weeks as starter after a 28-point first half against Atlanta four weeks ago. It declined into that six-point debacle against New England. Garrett felt the tenor of his team change that day against New England. The change was necessary if the Cowboys had any chance of saving this season. Garrett felt the change and acted.

I have a hunch Cassel will put up nice numbers on Sunday. Remember that Giants cornerback Prince Amukamara is out for this game, and while he’s not an elite corner he’s one of the Giants’ best. That should open things up a bit for Cassel. The changes at running back (Christine Michael getting an increased role) and the offensive line (sliding La’el Collins in as the starter at left guard) may help, too.

But the Cowboys are only asking Cassel to do one thing on Sunday — lead them to a win. Garrett and company really don’t care how pretty it looks.
